Anu Malik is a popular music director of indian Hindi cinema. The musician who started his career with some insignificant movies, is now one of the big names in film industry. A real success came to his way, after he won the Filmfare Award for Baazigar in 1993.

Anu Malik was born into a musical family. His father Sardar Malik was also a music director. Sardar Malik had composed songs like 'Mujhe Tumse Mohabbat' (Bachpan), 'Haan Deewaana Hoon Main' (Saaranga), and 'Ai Gum-e-Dil' (Thokar). But his father didn't get much success and due to which his family also had financial problems.

Anu Malik started his music career with a quite insignificant movie Hunterwali in 1977. During his early career Anu worked for many low budget, low grade films like Aapas Ki Baat, Ek Jaan Hain Hum, Aasman, Love Marriage, Maalamaal, Maa, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, and Mard, to fulfill needs of his family. He struggled a lot in his early career to get a right break. But every time he ends up in getting similar kind of films like Ek Chaadar Maili Si and Sohni Mahiwal. These films for sure were not raising his career graph, but were ok to solve family financial problems.

A real good break came to his way with Kirti Kumar's film Radha Ka Sangam. For the film Malik gave the hit numbers like 'Radha Ka Sangam', 'Bichhuaa' and 'Do Bol Kehke'. Followed by it, he found the same success with Mahesh Bhatt's telefilm Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi. For this telefilm, he composed beautiful melodies like 'Baadalon Mein Chhup Gaya Hai Chaand' and 'Tere Dar Par Sanam'. With these films he gets recognized in the industry. Since then he never looked back and went on to give number of hit scores for number of films.

Anu Malik won his first Filmfare Award for Baazigar. The film well settled him in the industry. Anu also had won Filmfare Best Music Director Award for film Main Hoon Na in 2004. He was also awarded with Filmfare Special Jury Award in 2000, for his contribution to the industry. Anu Malik is also a National Award winner. He won the National Award for film Refugee in 2001.

Meanwhile, with success and fame, he was also caught into controversy. He was blamed for copying tunes from other composer's songs. He was termed as 'copy cat'. While Anu Malik called it as, he was taking inspiration from other composers and sometimes also added the names of original composers on album cover. His versatility, different style and his collaboration with different singers and lyricists made him a unique music director in Bollywood.

But he shutted up mouths of all his critics by giving beautiful hit scores in films like Border, Refugee, and Virasat. After that no one had doubt about his music skills. His hit films as music director includes Aks, Filhal, Yaadein, Ashola, Fiza, Mujhe Kuch Kehena Hai, Main Hoon Na, Baadshah, Refugee, Viraasat, Ishq, Kareeb, Saaya, Murder to name a few. His recent films include No Entry (2005), Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006), Jaan-E-Mann (2006) and Umrao Jaan (2006).

Hit scores of Anu Malik includes 'Ruk Ruk Ruk Are Baba Ruk', 'Mr. Lova Lova', 'Panchhi Nadiya Pawan Ke Jhonke', 'Yeh Lamha Filhal Ji Lene De', 'Taare Hai Baaraati Hai', 'Churaao Na Dil Mera', 'Kisaka Hai Yeh Tumko Intzaar', 'Dhum Taara Dhum Taara Dhumma', 'No No No No... No Entry' and many more.

Along with composing, Anu Malik also had sung for many of his compositions including 'Ek Garam Chaai Ki Pyaali Ho' from Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega and 'Gori Gori' from Main Hoon Na. For some of the time he also sung in chorus. He is one of the best composers in Bollywood today and there is no stopping for Anu Malik right now. Anu recently appeared as judge to the Sony TV's reality show Indian Idol 3 along with other judges Javed Akhtar, Alisha Chinai and Udit Narayan.
